- Physical inspection — including borescope inspection of engines, structural inspections, and corrosion surveys, especially for aircraft that spent time in outdoor storage.
- Deferred item resolution — clearing any maintenance items that were deferred under Minimum Equipment List provisions during prior operation.
- Reconfiguration — adjusting cabin layout, livery, and avionics to match the next operator's specifications, which can range from a straightforward repaint to a full interior overhaul.
- Compliance updates — verifying the aircraft meets current regulatory requirements, from ADS-B Out to fuel tank flammability rules, particularly important if the aircraft is moving to a new regulatory jurisdiction.
- Airworthiness certification — final inspections and documentation (such as an 8130-3 or EASA Form 1, as applicable) confirming the aircraft is ready to fly under its next operator's certificate.
None of these steps are optional, and skipping or rushing any of them tends to show up later as unscheduled maintenance, warranty disputes, or delayed entry into service — the opposite of what a lessor wants after finally placing an aircraft with a new operator.
